Call the White House Veto the Defense Authorization Act
I just got off the phone with Senator Dianne Feinsteins Office in Washington DC.On the Defense Authorization Act with the terrible Detention Provision in it that would allow the military to arrest and imprison Any American on U.S. Soil without a Warrant indefinitely! This is the most serious threat to our civil liberties in our lifetimes. If you’ve never called your Senators or the White House over an issue this is the time to do so!
Senator Feinstein put forward two amendments to remove the Carl Levin Provision completely and they both were voted down by a majority of Senators!
*I suggest we ALL look up the votes and find out which Democratic and Republican Senators voted them down and work our asses off to replace them! See the link to the Official U.S. Senate Website at the end of this page to find the answer!
She then offered a Third Amendment that was one sentence long which said basically that Nothing in this Law would change the existing law in the United States regarding the Governments rights to arrest citizens via the military without Warrant. This passed because the people in favor of the Carl Levin Unconstitutional and Evil Provision believe that the current U.S. Law Already gives them the right to take away our civil liberties and arrest any of us they deem to be an enemy of the state.
“The Senator hopes they are wrong and if they are wrong her amendment would protect the people of America, if not then we have more to worry about.”
The Senators’ Aide also said that the President vowed to VETO the Defense Authorization Act if this Provision remained in it and the President may not believe the Feinstein Amendment adequately protects the civil liberties of the American People and may then still Veto it. If he does and I’m paraphrasing the Aide, the Senator believes there would not be sufficient votes to override the President’s Veto!
The aide told me that the Senators Office was “Very Surprised” that this issue wasn’t more of a hot button topic in the Country and the Media given its’ serious consequences. I told her that we are going to work to change that but without a Press that is free from Corporate Corruption and Control the American people will have no Fair Democracy and we need her to advocate for stronger support of Public Television for that reason. She said she believed the Senator would support that.
Most of the people in this Country of ours do not even know about this unconstitutional and dangerous provision in this law because the Media is controlled by Corporations who seek to control information and increase profits rather than serve and inform the public. We must remove profit motives from our Government and our Media if we are to preserve our Freedom as Americans! I am asking you to call your Senators and ask them to support more funding for Public Television and defend it so the people can have the information we need to preserve our liberties and Democracy.
You should research this yourselves and ask your own Senators( http://www.senate.gov ) how they voted and let them know what you think of their votes and how they should vote on this issue! If you do not act to protect your rights you are very likely to lose them as our your children and their children.
IN CONCLUSION
It is my believe that we should all Call the White House (202) 456-1414 and let our President know that this Defense Authorization Act must NOT be made into law with the current language in it as it does not adequately protect the civil liberties of every American now and into the future. It is a slippery slope from which we can all slide into the abyss of military control and tyranny in America. Veto the Law now Mr. President and force the Senate and House to remove that provision and you will earn the much deserved respect and support of Americans and people all around the world for standing up for Liberty!
